New book examines school privatization, cites IO’s work

SBSBToday, noted educational historian Diane Ravitch released her latest likely best-seller, Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools. We at Innovation Ohio are honored to have had our work used meaningfully in the book. Our eSchools report from 2011 served as the basis for much of Ravitch’s chapter regarding Virtual Schools. The report was quoted directly:
“As Innovation Ohio put it, ‘A child has a better chance of graduating if he or she attends a school in the Cleveland Municipal school district (whose poor performance has long served as a punching bag for conservative school choice advocates) — than in an Ohio E-school.'”
I wrote a review of the book yesterday, in advance of its release on my personal blog, 10th Period. When a scholar as distinguished as Dr. Ravitch, who served in President George H.W. Bush’s Education Department, uses our work, we are truly honored and humbled.
