Bill Analysis: This bill would prohibit insurers from offering coverage for abortions. This would include coverage of abortions when the mother’s life was in danger or the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest. The only exception when coverage would be allowed would be in the case of an ectopic pregnancy. The bill defines abortion services as including “drugs or devices used to prevent the implantation of a fertilized ovum.” This may impact insurers’ coverage of birth control.
