November Jobs Numbers
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released Ohio’s unemployment numbers for November. These numbers held some good news for Ohio, unemployment has decreased from 9.0% to 8.5%, but a deeper analysis of the numbers reveals a disturbing trend. This decrease in unemployment is attributable to 30,000 fewer people listed as unemployed. However, only 6000 jobs were created. The difference between the jobs created and the individuals who are unemployed, 24,000, means that these 24,000 people have likely exhausted their unemployment benefits and are no longer counted as unemployed or as part of the labor market. Many of these people may have stopped looking for employment and some may have left the state in search of employment. This is the second month in a row that Ohio has seen this phenomenon.
