My son is disabled, he has a brain tumor. He is paying over $400 a month for healthcare in the Ohio Preconditions Program, but even this is difficult financially. We are retired and struggling with the higher cost for utilities, gasoline and food. We had hoped to find more help in this area, but evidently this will be cut. I hope that this isn’t just to allow more tax breaks for those who don’t need it.

The fact that half of the cities have to put safety issues on the ballot shows how specious it is for the governor to say that he has balanced the budget. What he did was stole from citiies and schools and used that money to balance the state budget. How about making the same cuts in state programs, so schools and cities can continue to function?

School districts will always need more money. They need to work smarter, use technology and consider consolidating school districts within counties to save repetitive overhead costs. They need to offer remote learning options in high school so students have the option to take certain classes online, We have a 200 year old education system training students for jobs that don’t exist, and when they graduate high school they still don’t know how to balance a checkbook, compute their taxes or calculate a monthly budget.

Another step in the downward spiral for American workers! Wake up people…………..Don’t let Ohio go backwards. A rising tide raises all boats, but a sinking ship takes everyone down with it. If a business can not make a decent profit while offering safe working conditions, good pay and benefits, then they should not be in business. The middle class workers need the unions to give them the power to stop this travesty where the corporations make all of the profit and the worker gives up everything and works for minimum wage!

This is an outrageous example of voter suppression that is not only un-American and obscenely petty, but also a direct challenge to an individual’s right to vote. It would be seen to the rest of the world as a totally cynical and cowardly attempt to not only sidestep an individual American’s right to express their constitutional right (through voting) to voice their conscience and participation in determining local, state and national leadership, but put power-mongering at a new low. It is disgraceful intimidation tactic!

I certainly hope voters hold Governor Kasich responsible. I always call my greatly increased property tax(since we did pass a levy in 2011) a “Kasich tax increase.” It’s approximately three times the tax cut I would get under his income tax proposal, which looks like it won’t pass anyway. Thanks for the onerous new tax burden, governor. How is David Brennan enjoying my money?

That’s a fine choice for you, but the sad truth is that not all kids get sex ed from their parents. Some parents shield their kids from the world so much that they don’t even know what sex is and other parents are just neglectful and don’t think it’s important enough to tell their kids.
The bottom line is, some parents aren’t responsible, and it’s not fair or just to deny kids useful knowledge because of it.
Teaching sex ed in schools may not be the ideal approach to making sure all teenagers get this information but it’s the best one we have.
As for schools teaching kids to tie their shoes and use the potty; some schools are forced to do just that because some parents are just not responsible enough to teach their kids that themselves. We may be coming to that eventually, but things like sex ed are not why.

Or here’s an idea: How about we take sex ed out of school entirely and leave it up to the parents to teach what they want to their kids? I don’t want my children to learn the “abstinence only” sex ed, but if that is all the school offers then that’s what they’ll learn there, but I’m completely capable of teaching my kids about safe sex and STD’s. I remember my parents, at every chance they got, always said stuff like “no glove no love” and what not, and taught me about STD’s. I didn’t have a sex-ed in school, and I didn’t need it because I had responsible parents, People are leaving teaching our kids everything up to teachers and schools. Next thing you know we’re going to be expecting them to potty train our kids, teach them to tie their shoes, and how to ride a bike.

Alyssa, thank you very much for taking a sensible approach to opposing those who would take our freedoms. Blanketing an entier group is wrong. I have a republican friend who will be OUTRAGED when he hears about this. Its not about party its about ideology, one side is theocratic the other is conservative. Conservative is ok, Theocratic (seeking to be like a theocracy) is not.
